| ABOUT WORKSHOP

This workshop aims to impart basic knowledge of computational quantum chemistry and group theory to the faculty members, researchers and P. G. Students. The topics of the lectures and discussions include.
1. Hartree - Fock SCF method
2. The basis sets, STOs and GTO, nomenclature of basis sets.
3. Semi-empirical and ab initio methods
4. Calculations
using Gaussian Programme
5. Specification of molecular geometry.
6. The Z-matrix
7. The structure of Gaussian input file
8. Application of group theory.

Biosketch
Dr. K. Bhanu Prakash is an eminent scientist in IICT, Ph.D. from IISc, Bangalore. Four years of postdoctoral fellow in computational chemistry under Prof. Robert J. Buenker Wuppertal University, Germany. There are twenty research papers in reputed international journals. He received best performance award (IICT) in 1999-2000 and Raman Research fellowship in 2003. He was selected as the visiting scientist in Prof. Stanislav Miertus Group, ICS-UNIDO to Trieste, Italy. In 2003-2004 he was selected as visiting scientist in Prof. J. L. Bredas Group, Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, U.S.A. He took patents for the process of synthesis of N-substituted beta-amino nitriles through the ring opening of aziridines.
