The Department of Chemistry started functioning in the year 1976. This Department provides both UG & PG courses in Chemistry. M.Sc Chemistry course was started in the year 1982. The department maintains good academic record in both UG and PG courses for the last 15 years by producing rank holders and by securing 100% results with cent percent first classes. The department claims its uniqueness in availing PG development assistance by publishing papers in international journals by the faculty and getting UGC minor and major research projects. The department conducts seminars, symposia and workshops for the benefit of UG and PG students of our college and for the students of various colleges of Calicut University. Department has already conducted a National Seminar on “Computational Chemistry” for the benefit of Chemistry Faculty.


EXTENSION ACTIVITIES

A unit of Enviro Club under the sponsorship of Kerala Water Authority is functioning in our college with the guidance of faculty members of Chemistry Department. The main objective of this club is in creating awareness among the public regarding the environment pollutions like air pollution, water pollution etc. For this purpose, the club is conducting a number of extension activities like awareness campaign medical camps, water quality testing etc. in different villages of Thalappilly Taluk. The club provides facility for water quality monitoring by testing the physical, inorganic, and biochemical parameters to measure the quality of drinking water. The faculty members involved in the activities of this club extend their help is giving guidelines, advices and the remedial measures to be taken to cut the environmental problems.
