Nair Service Society, a great social organization of long standing repute founded by Sri Mannath Padmanabhan, added Sri Vyasa NSS College to the impressive list of Educational Institutions run by it, in the beginning of the Academic Year 1971-72. Originally established in 1967 as Sri Vyasa College by the Jnanasram which has been doing great service in the spiritual field throughout the country for several years, this institution has been catering in a modest way, to the higher education needs of a large part of Thalappily Taluk in a remarkable manner.

The foundation stone of the College Building was laid by late Sri. M. K. K. Nair on 9th April 1967. The College started functioning on 10th July 1967 with four batches of Pre-Degree students and in 1965, the student strength rose to six batches comprising of eighty students each. Realizing that work in the educational field was hampering its main objectives of spiritual work, the Jnanasram in 1971 decided to entrust the college to a responsible social body capable of giving shape to its ambitious objectives. The Nair Service Society with immense experience in the management of educational institutions, at all levels gladly accepted this responsibility.

The college was upgraded in 1975-76 with the commencement of B.Com Degree course. B.Sc course in Chemistry Main was started in 1976-77, Physics Main in 1980-81 & Mathematics Main in 1981 –82. With the introduction of shift system in 1979-80, the number of batches for the Pre-Degree course rose to nine.

M.Sc Degree in Chemistry and B.A Course in Economics were started in 1982-83. B.Sc course in Botany was started in 1993. B.A. Degree course in English Literature with Communicative English and Journalism as subsidiaries was started in 1988-99. B.A. Degree Course in History with Archeology and Public Administration as subsidiaries was started in 1999-2000. M.Sc Degree Course in Physics was started in 2000-2001 academic year.
