DEPARTMENT OF BOTANY
 

The department of Botany which started functioning in 1993 has an illustrious track record. Of the 15 students who appeared for university examination in 1999, all secured first class. Aneesha T. H. who secured 937 marks became the first rank holder in Botany in 2001. Nine batches students have completed their course in the Department out of 161 students who appeared for University Examinations, 93% succeeded to get a pass and 76% came out with first class (122 Students). All the 22 students of the Ninth Batch (2001-2004) passed in the university Examination and 20 secured first class marks.


EXTENSION ACTIVITIES

NATURE CLUB OF INDIA

A unit of Nature Club of India is functioning in our college. Dr. T. Jayanarayanan held the rein of this club till his demise on 28th August 2002. The main objective of this project is to develop an insight about the intricacies of nature. Forest trekking, Study tours, Nature camps, Planting of seeds etc. are some of the activities organized by the club.

K Raveendrakumar has been teaching Botany since 1980. A student of Sri Vyasa NSS College for his Pre Degree course, he obtained Bachelor's and Master's Degree from Calicut University in 1976 and 1978 respectively. He secured his M.Phil Degree from Calicut University in 1994 with specialization in Angiosperm Taxonomy (Nomenclature). He has the proud privilege for having co-authored the book "Companion to Gamble's Flora - additions to the Flora of Kerala since Gamble (1935)" with Prof. Dr. K. S. Manilal, formerly the head of the Department of Botany, University of Calicut, published by Mentor Books (1999). He has also presented poster in National seminar held at University of Calicut in 1998. He is also interested in Oil Painting. DEPARTMENT OF ZOOLOGY

The Zoology Department has been functioning from the very beginning of the college. At present Zoology is a subsidiary subject for Botany Degree students. Highest percentage of marks in 2002-2003 is 96.5. Department is equipped with good laboratory and enough books .
